Our leading lady, Chae Yong-ju, is the kind of character you can’t help but admire. She’s played by Kim Se-jeong, and from the very start, you can feel her confidence and strength. Working at Likey, a beer company, Yong-ju is shown handling a pretty intense situation. When a client doesn’t pay up, she doesn’t just let it go; she goes right after him and retrieves the payment herself. This scene tells you so much about her character. She’s fearless, proactive, and totally committed to her job.
What I love about Yong-ju is that she’s not just this tough, no-nonsense woman. She’s also got a fun, warm side that shines through when she’s with her coworkers. In a lively office celebration, her colleagues laugh and talk about her quirky marketing strategies. You get a sense of her humor and camaraderie with the team, which rounds out her character nicely. She’s tough, yes, but she’s also likable, and that balance makes her feel very real. You can tell she cares deeply about Likey’s success, which makes you root for her from the start.

Then we meet Yun Min-ju, the male lead played by Lee Jong-won. Now, Min-ju is the complete opposite of Yong-ju, and that contrast makes their story so much fun to watch. Min-ju is a quiet, thoughtful guy who runs a small brewery called Naro out in the countryside. His life is simple; he brews beer, takes care of his cat, and enjoys the peace and beauty of rural life. It’s a stark contrast to Yong-ju’s fast-paced, intense world.
What makes Min-ju special is his ability to understand people’s emotions. It’s almost like he has a sixth sense. In one scene, he observes a worker who seems sad, but Min-ju knows she’s actually happy because she’s going back to her hometown. His intuition about people is spot-on, which makes him feel so unique as a character. He’s not your typical, brooding male lead; he’s genuinely kind and empathetic, with a depth that draws you in. He even gifts his worker some money for her trip, showing his generous nature.
Brewing Love wouldn’t be as compelling without its supporting characters. They bring in layers of complexity and a touch of humor that makes the story feel even richer.
Now, one of my favorite moments of Episode 1 is when Yong-ju and Min-ju finally meet at a carnival. Min-ju has taken his younger half-brother, Min-ho, to the carnival to escape a stiff birthday party thrown by his father. Min-ho shyly admits he wants a teddy bear, and Min-ju, seeing his discomfort, tries to win it for him. But things don’t go as planned, and that’s when Yong-ju steps in. She’s at the carnival dealing with her own work stress when she notices Min-ho struggling with the game.
Without knowing that Min-ho’s older brother is the man she’s destined to meet, Yong-ju helps Min-ho win the bear. And Min-ju, observing her, is struck by her kindness and determination. Their eyes meet, and there’s this incredible chemistry, even though they haven’t said a word to each other yet. You can feel that connection between them. Min-ju can sense that Yong-ju carries a deep-seated emotion within her, and he’s drawn to her. This scene is beautifully done, leaving you wanting more of this potential romance.
What I love about Brewing Love is that it goes beyond just the main romance. The show gives you glimpses into the personal lives of Yong-ju and Min-ju, showing what shaped them into who they are. For example, Yong-ju is more than her fierce attitude at work; she’s also a caring granddaughter who looks after her elderly grandmother. There’s a hint of mystery about her past and her family situation, which makes her even more relatable. She seems guarded, and you can sense there’s a story there waiting to be told.
Min-ju’s relationship with his younger half-brother, Min-ho, is equally touching. During Min-ho’s birthday, it’s clear he feels out of place, especially in the presence of his strict, military-minded father. Min-ju takes Min-ho to the carnival, giving him the chance to just be a kid and enjoy himself. It’s sweet to see how Min-ju takes on this nurturing role. This bond with his brother shows another side of Min-ju that makes you adore him even more.
Episode 1 of Brewing Love brings a perfect mix of humor, romance, and emotional depth that makes you want to keep watching. Chae Yong-ju’s boldness and Yun Min-ju’s calm, intuitive nature set them up as a couple that’s both intriguing and heartwarming. The way they meet, their personalities, and even their backgrounds promise a story filled with growth, understanding, and unexpected love.
